Kron Gracie needs no nickname to tell the audience just what type of a fighter he is. After all, Kron, as his last name suggests, is the scion of the legendary Gracie family, who popularized Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and got the ball rolling on establishing the entire sport of mixed martial arts.
But Kron does have a nickname, and a pretty ‘cool’ one (pun intended as we will see later). As he sets up for another UFC appearance soon, hoping to resurrect his illustrious family’s legacy in MMA, let us take a look at the origins of his nickname and some lesser-known facts about him.

Kron Gracie’s nickname ‘Ice Cream Kron’ apparently goes back to his competitive BJJ days, before he started his pro MMA career in 2013. Unsurprisingly, he is quite an accomplished Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor, having won not only the ADCC (called the Olympics of BJJ) in 2013 but also the European Championships in 2009.
In addition, he is a silver medallist at the World Championships and the Pan American Championships. One of the main reasons for his victories was his calm and cool demeanor, which earned him the moniker ‘Ice Cream Kron’. This nickname perfectly encapsulates what type of a fighter Kron is as good monikers do.

However, this cool and calm demeanor has been apparent in his MMA career so far. Gracie started his MMA journey in Japan in RIZIN and not only did he win all his three bouts via submission, but did so in the very first round, precisely because of his ability to stay calm under pressure. But this is just one of the numerous interesting things about ‘Ice Cream Kron’.

Other unknown facts about Kron Gracie
Kron Gracie did not much care for BJJ when he was a child. Instead, Gracie’s first love growing up in California, was skateboarding. And the Gracie scion was no scrub on the board, having been good enough to attract sponsors before quitting the sport. So enamored was he of skateboarding that he had broken both of his ankles and his wrist before he became a teenager, but continued his skateboarding journey.
Until one fateful event, which changed everything for him. It was his older brother, Rockson‘s untimely death in 2000 when Kron was twelve that made him take up BJJ. After all, he felt that it was his responsibility to continue his family traditions after his brother passed away.

Like many of his family, ‘Ice Cream Kron’ runs a BJJ gym. While it was originally based in Culver City, California, the Gracie scion moved to Montana and founded a new gym there in 2021 amid the COVID-19 lockdowns in the Sunny State. Kron also sells a BJJ video course, where he teaches what he learned over twenty-five years from the world’s best BJJ teachers.
A lesser known and bizarre fact about Gracie is that he is an ardent believer of the ‘flat earth theory’. It will be interesting to see how the Gracie scion fares in his UFC comeback against a returning Bryce Mitchell at UFC 310. What do you think about Gracie’s nickname?
