Can Ibo Aslan overcome his past defeat and prove he's the next UFC legend in the making?

UFC fighters are mammoths and titans when it comes to fighting fiercely inside the cage. But ultimately, everything boils down to the imperative fact of registering those much-needed wins in your column. Even legendary fighters like Randy Couture and Anderson Silva have had their fair share of losses inside the octagon and even before stepping on the fabled canvas.

So the same goes for Ibo Aslan who has a record of 13 wins and has had one loss at UFC so far. So let’s see who he lost to in the promotion and how many times he won in MMA both inside and outside the UFC.  

Who has Ibo Aslan lost to?

‘The Last Ottoman’ fights in the light heavyweight division and has won 13 times with 11 first-round finishes. He came in through the Dana White Contender Series in Season 7 and debuted at UFC on ESPN where Aslan knocked out Anton Turkalj at 1:32 of the third round. He spoke to UFC and said that he started training at the age of 18.  He stated, “I used to play soccer, but I was looking for an individual sport where I can rely on myself. So I started with boxing training. It became boring, so I made the switch to MMA.”

Aslan has a single blemish on his record in the form of a loss outside the UFC against Anton Turkalj which happened at the European Brave in 2020. However, the Turkiye native avenged this loss with a third-round TKO over Turkalj at UFC on ESPN 54 on March 30, 2024.

The 28-year-old Ibo Aslan has an impressive resume. The 205fer started his pro career in the Austrian Fight Challenge in 2016. ‘The Last Ottomanstarted strong early in his career and has now stacked up around 13 knockouts.

Interestingly, Aslan was not focused on MMA during his early days. This is the reason he dabbled his hand at various sports like soccer and boxing but could not find a proper affinity until he discovered MMA. In a candid moment, Aslan said to UFC, “I started training for fighting at the age of 18. Before that, I used to play soccer, but I was looking for an individual sport where I could rely on myself. So I started with boxing, but it became boring, so I switched to MMA.”

The up-and-coming light heavyweight contender has secured wins at the WFMC World Championship and the AFC Austrian Championship. Aslan considers the legendary kickboxer Gokhan Saki as his inspiration and is looking to follow him in his footsteps of greatness. However, ‘The Last Ottoman’ first needs to overcome a tough challenge in the form of Raffael Cerqueira at UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi. Do you think he will win this fight?
