Ian Garry is set to take on Michael ‘Venom’ Page at the upcoming UFC 303 event on June 29. The rising Irish star has claimed the number 7 spot in the UFC welterweight rankings and will be looking to establish himself as a force to be reckoned with a win over the fan-favorite striking maestro that is ‘MVP’. Garry was initially angling to fight #4 ranked Colby Covington, but the fight fell through, and the Irishman will have to do with the #14 ranked Page.
Garry is known by the fans for his brash persona and his striking skills inside the Octagon. As he gears up to cement his place as a title contender in the UFC, the fans have been curious to learn more about his training partners, his gym, and issues that led to a split between him and welterweight champion, Leon Edwards!

Ian Garry was originally training out of Team Renegade, renowned for being the home gym of UFC welterweight champion, Leon Edwards. The reason behind his departure was later revealed, with Garry attributing it to concerns about Edwards, feeling insecure due to his presence. Garry also claimed that the coaches aimed to maintain Edwards’s confidence during training sessions.
However, contrary to Garry’s explanation, Leon Edwards dismissed his claims in an interview with TNT Sports. He stated, “The difference with Ian was that, when he came in, he’d bring his camera with him and bring his girlfriend [wife] with him. He was late to the sessions.”
‘Rocky’ also emphasized that the decision was made collectively by the gym members, not solely influenced by his preferences as he stated, “…the coaches and the team decided: ‘We wish you well on your journey, but your culture doesn’t fit our culture.’”

Despite the controversy surrounding his exit from Team Renegade, Ian Garry has found another gym that has embraced the Irish MMA sensation!
Where does Ian Garry train? Is Charles Oliveira his training partner?
Ian Garry, the welterweight contender, is preparing for his UFC 303 bout with the support of former lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira. Originally scheduled to face Vicente Luque last year in December, Garry’s fight was postponed, leading to a rearranged clash with Geoff Neal. However, the anticipation surrounding Garry’s return has been overshadowed by controversies regarding his personal life and gym conduct.
But at Brazil’s ‘Chute Boxe’ gym, where Garry currently trains, there seem to be no such issues. In the first episode of UFC 298 Embedded: Vlog Series, Garry was seen training alongside ’Do Bronx’ and other training partners in the gym.

Oliveira has even come out in support of the Irishman ahead of his UFC 298 clash by stating, “Ian is very aware. He fights calm, with composure. I believe we will come out victorious.”
The Irishman continued his undefeated run and managed to defeat Neal via a split decision on the card, and is now set to face perhaps the hardest opponent of his career so far in ‘MVP’. The latter, of course, is a striker like Garry. But not just any striker but a historically great, leave-you-punching-the-air striker with excellent range management and an exceptional ability to not get hit. Some analysts like Joe Rogan already predict that Garry will have a “very hard time” against Page because of the latter’s skills and ability on the feet. Which is why Garry’s training becomes even more important.
