Going on an undefeated streak, the Irish fighter is striving to get a win against Michael Page at UFC 303. But the fighter seldom takes a step back when it comes to spending time with his family. ‘The Future’ often shares pictures and clips of moments that he shared with his close ones on social media. But did you know that he even keeps his wife’s ex-husband close to him? 

As Garry began preparing for his comeback at UFC 298 against Geoff Neal, he did something that not many people could have done. He hired his wife’s ex-husband. Let’s find out more about the relationship between Layla Machado’s ex-husband and Garry.

Why is Layla Machado’s ex-husband Ian Garry’s nutritionist? 

A few months ago, back when he was still preparing for his fight against Neal, the undefeated mixed martial artist appeared in an interview with Shakiel Mahjouri, on the ‘Shak MMA’. Therein, the host pointed out that Richard Cullen, who was indeed a highly skilled nutritionist, was a part of the fighter’s camp. Coincidentally, Cullen was also Machado’s ex-husband, and the father to Garry’s stepson. The fighter applauded Mahjouri as he gave the correct insights about the reason why he hired Cullen.

It was indeed to let Cullen be able to spend some time with his son, while Garry could benefit from his exemplary skills as a nutritionist. He said, “So, the main reason behind my wife’s ex-husband was he is an elite performance nutritionist. And he is very f***ing good at what he does, right? To the point at which we’ve done every single weight cut for the UFC and they’ve been easier and easier and easier every single time. We’ve worked phenomenally together. And I’m very proud of the work we’ve done.”

Furthermore, it was a win for the nutritionist as well, since he would be able to see his son whenever he wanted. Garry explained that he simply didn’t want to separate a father from his son and have it on his conscience. He continued, “Now, in that same regard, he is a professional in one regard, he’s also the father of my wife’s son. And I never want to be a wedge between a father and a son. I never want that in my conscience… I understand that there’s a child in all of this and he deserves to be prioritized. ”

Garry claimed that his stepson was to be prioritized instead of everyone engaging in arguments and battles. This gesture was also followed through when Ian Machado Garry took his wife’s maiden name as his own. Despite being ridiculed for it, Garry clarified, “The truth is I only did it because I wanted my son and my stepson to really feel connected. I didn’t want them going through life with two separate surnames. I feel like there is a little bit of a disconnect. If you guys want to be brothers, I want to make sure you guys have that same connection.”

However, things began to turn to a darker hue when rumors about Cullen living together with Garry and Machado began going viral on the internet. 

Does Ian Garry’s wife’s ex-husband live with them?

Not too long ago, rumor mills started churning that claimed Machado’s ex-husband was still living with her new family, with Garry as the fighter’s nutritionist. When Garry entered a beef with Sean Strickland, things became even more troubled as ‘Tarzan’ targeted Machado and her son. Needless to say, Garry swooped in to defend his family. But the talks about Cullen living with them were all nothing but a hoax.

Machado clarified it all on Instagram by quoting, “No he doesn’t and no, he never has. You are just making that up, inventing it completely.” Now, as the undefeated Irish mixed martial artist gets ready to take on the fight against Page at UFC 303, Cullen, along with Machado and their children support Garry in every way that they can. But whether the fighter will win or not is something that only time can tell.
