On April 8th, the Kaseya Center in Miami witnessed a seismic shift in the seven-year-long rivalry between Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira. The New Zealander emerged victorious, ending his losing streak against the Brazilian and reclaiming the UFC middleweight championship belt that ‘Poatan’ had snatched away from him during their first UFC match. The MMA community praised Adesanya for his spectacular performance in the octagon, hailing him as a true champion.

However, Adesanya’s moment of triumph was soon overshadowed by a controversial incident. In response to a six-year-old action by his arch-rival, Adesanya decided to get his revenge on Alex Pereira’s son. This move generated strong reactions from the fans, with some supporting Adesanya’s actions, while others criticized him for going too far.

Despite the backlash, Adesanya remains unapologetic about his actions, stating that he was simply defending his honor. Moreover, Jared Cannonier has a rather unconventional take on the matter at hand.

Despite the intense rivalry between Adesanya and Pereira, it seems that a trilogy fight between the two may not be in the cards. Pereira recently announced that he will be moving up to the light heavyweight division. This move has not cooled down the bad blood between the two fighters. However, it does complicate the possibility of a third fight in the UFC.
