Former women’s undisputed bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has been away from the UFC since 2016. Also, she hasn’t fought in the WWE since WrestleMania 35. In her time away, she started a family with her husband, Travis Browne.

Recently, Rousey, who appeared on comedian Kevin Hart’s interview show, talked about many things, including her career in MMA, Judo, and pro wrestling. When asked if she would want her children to partake in combat sports, ‘Rowdy’ said, “I would never try to make my kids fight, but I would want them to always know how to fight.”

Ronda, being an Olympic medalist in judo, had elite-level grappling and throws. She was especially known for her armbar submission, which she terrorized the division with.

The former champion broke into the limelight with her MMA title wins and WWE title reign. However, many may not be familiar with her Judo run.

Ronda Rousey and her Olympic Career in Judo

Rousey began training judo at the age of 11 with her mother. She showed lots of promise as a young judoka and won multiple competitions. Ronda’s drive came from her dad. She said, “When I was swimming as a kid my dad always told me that I was gonna go win the Olympics in swimming, that I was gonna be a president, that I was gonna do all these great things.”

‘Rowdy’ further said, “So I just assumed that, that’s what you went out to do things for. So when I switched from swimming to judo, I just thought, like oh! I’m gonna win the Olympics in this now.”

Rousey won silver in 2007 at the Judo world championships. Then she claimed gold at the Pan American Games. And finally, in 2008, Rousey won a bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

This established her as a star and helped her make moves across the next decade. Having worked hard and succeeded, it’s quite refreshing to hear that she won’t push her children down the same path.
