The former interim lightweight champion appeared in a media interaction at UFC 271. He talked about his rivalry with ‘Chaos’ and also discussed how things changed during their days at American Top Team.
While talking about Covington’s changing behavior, Poirier said, “Yeah, people were confused, but people kind of saw the business side of things as well. And the way his trajectory was, you know. Now he is fighting for the belts.”
“And now people are talking about him when they weren’t before. It’s just the thing that makes me hate the sport, you know. The fakeness of things like that and I would call it clickbait.”
“But living that kind of life, you know, it’s just. It’s not the same thing that I fell in love with when I started fighting fifteen years ago. It’s a different thing now. You know, guys are making their way through the ranks a different way.”
All these factors between ‘Chaos’ and ‘The Diamond’ can materialize into a massive fight. However, Poirier has no interest in fighting his former teammate.
Dustin Poirier will never fight Colby Covington
Even though the former teammates share a bitter rivalry between them, ‘The Diamond’ doesn’t want to take the beef inside the octagon. In the same interview, the Louisiana native revealed the reason for it.
