Ronda Rousey was a star even before arriving in the UFC. She was the Strikeforce bantamweight champion. Thus, she was always ruling in the cage. But not only that, even outside she was getting a lot of attention, she was on the cover of ESPN The Magazine Body Issue in 2012. And during an event for her cover, she called out Kim Kardashian, which created a lot of noise.

Rousey on the red carpet of the 2012 ESPN event, when asked about a celebrity she would like to beat, said, “I would beat the c*ap out of Kim Kardashian, actually.”

‘Rowdy’ didn’t appreciate the reason she believed Kardashian gets such massive attention from people. She wondered why the famed American personality has such a fanbase and added, “Oh, yeah, she is selling sketchers to some 13-year-old. I don’t want some girl whose entire fame is based on a s*x video to be selling sketchers to my 13-year-old little sister.”

“That’s why I’m doing things like this. Because people like Kim Kardashian are being pushed in my sister’s face and you know it’s just not healthy. She didn’t need to have role models like this. And that’s why I’m doing stuff like ESPN Body because someone needs to do it,” concluded Rousey.

Back then, the current UFC Hall of Fame hadn’t made her debut in the premier MMA organization. Yet ‘Rowdy’ was a highly recognized name in the MMA space in a brief span of time. This perhaps led to Rousey becoming the first lady to sign with the UFC. Besides, the promotion had her as a champion from the very first matchup.

Dana White changed his stance on women’s MMA after meeting Ronda Rousey

The veteran UFC promoter, Dana White, once in an infamous TMZ interview, told that women will not be welcomed in the premier MMA organization. However, after meeting ‘Rowdy’ he changed his stance.

The Olympian Judoka wasn’t only the first female athlete to win an Olympic medal in Judo, but also she was the first woman signee, champion, and main event for the UFC.
