Joe Rogan spoke to comedian Bert Kreisher on the latest episode of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ about the main event of UFC 266. Rogan missed out on commentating live for the event on account of a hunting trip, however, he most certainly watched the headliner. Joe Rogan waxed poetically about the contest that is being considered by many as a Fight of the Year candidate.
Alexander Volkanovski stomped all over Brian Ortega to cement his second title defense at UFC 266. However, he faced some nearly insurmountable adversity during the third round of the bout that threatened to end his reign. ‘T-City’ Ortega had Volkanovski in trouble after two lethal submission attempts in round three, and Rogan simply couldn’t get enough of it.

‘Brian Ortega and Alexander Volkanovski had one of the craziest fights I’ve ever seen in my life. It was wild and I kind of wish I was there… That was a fight you couldn’t call because Brian Ortega almost won, twice, with two insane submissions.”
“He got him mounted with a guillotone, he got him on the bottom with a triangle. It was insane! Ortega is known for his submissions. His submissions are some of the best in MMA.”

Brian Ortega: The submission ace of the UFC
Joe Rogan couldn’t help but geek out over the exemplary technique shown by Gracie-trained Ortega on Fight Night. After absorbing hellacious amounts of punishment, he was able to chase fight-ending submissions on the undisputed champion. However, Volkanovski showed exactly why he held the strap and exhibited the heart and skill of a champion.

“When he drove on that guillotine choke, I was like I wish people could see how beautiful that is the way I see it. Because I know how hard that is to do. The way he slipped it in and got mount, on a world champion.”
“Full guillotine in mount on a world champion and the guy got out!… That kind of guillotine with a guy like that is death, it’s death and that crazy motherfu**er from Australia got out where 99.99% of the people who have ever lived would have tapped out.”

Alexander Volkanovski’s stock has certainly raised exponentially ever since his defining win at UFC 266. Fans have now placed his controversial win over Max Holloway in the rear-view mirror and are looking ahead to the next chapters in his career.
