Charles Oliveira put out a strong statement at UFC 289! After defeating Beneil Dariush in under one round, the former champion silenced his critics who doubted his skills. With this win, Oliveira positioned himself as a strong contender for a rematch with Islam Makhachev. Oliveira has repeatedly said that he was not himself in his first fight against Makhachev at UFC 280.
After suffering a bitter loss to Makhachev via submission, Oliveira now seems more confident than ever to reclaim the Lightweight gold. Moreover, the fans are also backing ‘Do Bronx’ in his journey of retribution. However, one notable UFC veteran is still doubtful of Charles Oliveira.

Chael Sonnen, known for his candid analysis, questioned Oliveira’s sincerity in a recent YouTube video. Sonnen questioned Oliveira’s claims of not being himself during the first bout, asserting that it appeared to be the same fighter he had witnessed before. Moreover, he expressed skepticism toward Oliveira’s newfound determination. ‘The American Gangster’ suggested that Oliveira might just be attempting to convince everyone of his readiness for a rematch.
“Charles Oliveira says he wants to rematch Islam. He says that that wasn’t him (the last time). I did not believe those things. Sure looked like him. He’s now saying ‘I will go to Abu Dhabi. I will go to Islam’s backyard’. When you’re of that mindset, the only thing that you’re succeeding at doing is convincing smart minds like Chael that you really do want to do this rematch.”
With his spectacular performance at UFC 289, ‘Do Bronx’ was able to impress the entire MMA community. However, it seems like Sonnen wasn’t very pleased with the Brazilian’s performance.
Charles Oliveira lost more than he won, according to Sonnen!
Chael Sonnen believes that Oliveira was initially losing in various aspects of the fight, including wrestling and range battles. In the brief grappling encounter between Dariush and Oliveira, Sonnen believes that the former was dominating it.

“He won. And he won in a very decisive fashion. Not to mention he had to deal with Adversity. Charles was losing that fight. By the way, he lost more aspects of the fight than he won. Who out-wrestled whom? Not even a question! Benny. Whose groundwork looked more festive? Not even a question! Benny.”
