Ryan Garcia and Conor McGregor have the same magnetic, brash, and arrogant personality traits loved by fans. This is why McGregor is the biggest star in the sport’s history and Garcia has emerged as perhaps the biggest boxing star at the moment, with some analysts even terming him ‘the face of boxing’. All of this without ‘King Ryan’ even being a champion or having won a world championship in the sport.
While a popular boxer before, his breakout moment came last month after he dominantly defeated Devin Haney post a wildly entertaining build-up. However, shortly after the bout, it emerged that Garcia had failed two VADA drug tests, which put his win in jeopardy. Chief among those criticizing Garcia was Conor McGregor, who took to X and excoriated Garcia, even going as far as to call for a “lifetime ban”. Every part as bombastic as the Irishman, Garcia responded in kind on a recent podcast interview.

Ryan Garcia, dressed in his signature all-white attire, went on a podcast hosted by YouTuber Bob Menery, where he spoke about Conor McGregor’s incendiary post calling him out. The California native, who has had an amicable relationship with ‘Notorious’ prior to the former’s positive drug test, was just as acerbic in his response as the ‘Road House’ star had been in condemning him.
“I don’t care, bro, like, what’s his problem? Didn’t he run away from a drug test? Like for two and a half years he was escaping tests like this. Dude’s a clown, he just got off his rocker. He f**king did a bunch of cocaine f**k him, him I will beat the f**k out of him. See, I don’t even want to be mean to him, like we were cool. But now, all of a sudden he woke up and chose violence. I don’t take smoke from nobody,” remarked Garcia.
Terming the Dubliner “a clown” and accusing him of substance abuse, hinting that the post did not have much thought behind it from McGregor’s end. Having recently issued a bare-knuckle boxing challenge to McGregor, the 25-year-old promised to beat him up and “rip his arms off complete by myself with just one hand.”

Garcia ended his tirade by calling McGregor an idiot and even cursed out the host when he said he liked the Irishman. Amidst this, the 25-year-old did, however, shout out to former stablemate and superstar boxer Canelo Alvarez who recently met Garcia.
“F**k him dude, he’s drugged out. He’s an idiot literal idiot. You like Conor? Well f**k Conor and f**k you… Shout out to Canelo, family ties,” he told Menery. As Garcia pointed out, McGregor and Garcia used to share a very amicable relationship, with the former champion having posted praises on X for ‘King Ryan’ after the Haney fight.

But, his testing positive seems to have fired up McGregor, who took to X to vent his anger. Or, it may just be a purely business move on the BKFC minority owner’s part as he sows the seeds for an eventual boxing match against the hottest boxing star, perhaps, as Garcia has suggested even bare-knuckle, perhaps at the BKFC. For now, however, Garcia has a bigger concern to tackle.
Things not looking good for Garcia
Given his failed drug test, Ryan Garcia’s win is at risk of being overturned to a no-contest. In addition to testing positive for Ostarine, the California native came into his bout with Devin Haney 3 points over the super lightweight limit.

And the New York Athletic Commission, which is the sanctioning body for the bout, will not look down kindly upon it, either. Devin Haney’s camp, of course, has been vocal in calling for the result of the bout to be overturned, and his promoter Eddie Hearn thinks there is a good chance this will happen.
Garcia, of course, has been denying he knowingly took the banned substances and even alleged that there was a conspiracy by “them” to discredit him and besmirch his name. The 25-year-old will undoubtedly do everything it takes to clear his name. Because otherwise, his greatest win so far will have an asterisk around it for perpetuity.
