Fans can shower a lot of love, especially on social media, but the same social media platform can also pave the way for numerous haters as well who are ready to make snide comments. Every famous person knows this, including UFC stars like Conor McGregor and Sean O’Malley. However, the fighter with the most experience with haters has to be Colby Covington.
Why? Because there is not just one incident where he got dragged by UFC fans; there are many.
From being hated after his leg break while fighting Leon Edwards to getting hate for commenting on Ian Garry and Layla Machado Garry, ‘Chaos’ knows what hate looks like. He reiterated his feelings about it in his latest installment of ESPN’s UFC Journey video as well.

Colby Covington downplays the impact of criticism toward him, vows to continue to speak his mind
ESPN MMA uploaded a video named UFC Journey: Colby Covington vs Joaquin Buckley ahead of their fight in Tampa. This is where the 17-fight welterweight winner expressed his ideas on the hatred and reprimand he gets from fans. Known for his controversial opinions and unfiltered words, ‘Chaos’ said, “Fans do consider me the biggest villain and the easiest guy to hate but I am not here to care what other people’s opinions are. I am just here to create my destiny. I developed a reputation because I just was not afraid to speak my mind.”
However, speaking his mind included insulting Ian Garry and dragging his wife into the trash-talking sphere. He was at loggerheads with Garry for over a year and the Irishman was upset because Covington was not responding to his fight calls.
On that note, the trash talk started and it escalated when Covington insinuated that his wife “wears the pants on this relationship”. Fans, including Garry and his wife, were not happy with this and gave Colby Covington a piece of their mind.
Even the 41-year-old TV sports presenter took to social media to clarify the trash-talking between her husband and Covington. Meanwhile, UFC 296 also saw him getting a lot of hate.

Throwback: UFC 296 when ‘Chaos’ received hate even after breaking his leg
Leading up to his fight against former champion Leon Edwards, Covington said a very controversial thing during the post-fight presser. He targeted Edwards and dragged his family, saying, “I’m bringing you to the seventh layer of hell. We’ll say ‘what’s up’ to your dad while we’re there.”

This was insulting to ‘Rocky’ because his father passed away in a gang shootout when Edwards was just 13. Even rabid fans of Covington were upset with this remark. Even though he tried to apologize for his ‘in character’ behavior at the weigh-ins, it proved futile.
The American star lost his fight against Edwards and broke his foot in round 1. He mentioned how he had waited for the X-rays to divulge the information to the fans. While speaking to Submission Radio he said, “And, you know, haters will still find a way to hate on me for fighting 25 minutes on one leg while landing over a hundred more strikes than Leon. But you know what? My haters are so broke, they can’t even pay attention. So, f–k them.” So clearly fans are always salty with him. Do you think he can change it this time?
