Joe Rogan's back surgery changed his life forever—do you think he can ever be the same again?

Joe Rogan is surely an example for people to stay as fit as possible, even when nearing the 60s. But guess what? As fit as he is now, he’s suffered some serious health setbacks in the past. In a recent edition of the ‘Joe Rogan Experience’ podcast, the longtime UFC commentator revealed his struggles with back problems.

The longtime UFC commentator already mentioned having to deal with sleep apnea, which he fortunately recovered from. However, this time, Joe Rogan spilled the beans on how difficult things got when years of martial arts weighed heavily on his back. Moreover, the JRE host also revealed the daunting problems of former UFC champion Daniel Cormier regarding his back.

A lot of bodily contact is the basis of martial arts, or at least in grappling disciplines like Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Besides being an expert in Taekwondo, Joe Rogan is also well-versed in BJJ and has a black belt to suffice his expertise in it. But guess what? All that training, as much as making him skilled, also proved pretty detrimental to his neck and back.

“I have had a lot of back issues from dis-degeneration from jiu-jitsu, you know. Twenty years of wrestling with men and getting your neck strangled and it’s like, it does a lot of stuff to your back. That’s not good,” Joe Rogan told guest Max Lugavere on the #2170 edition of the JRE podcast. The 56-year-old had the option to go for surgery, but there was one reason why he decided to scoot away from that idea and that’s by seeing how Daniel Cormier changed after he had his back surgery.

“I do not know anyone that has had back surgery. That’s the best thing I ever did. Everyone, like Daniel Cormier, UFC champion, you know, he was like, ‘I was never the same once they cut my back open. It was never the same,'” Joe Rogan added. Also, there was an instance when Daniel Cormier, in a rather light-hearted manner, revealed that his fight against Derrick Lewis in 2018 would have not come to fruition due to him busting his back a few days prior, but what do you think could be the reason behind it? Well, the former dual-weight champion sneezed.

Medical science is becoming progressive, and this is a good thing in more ways than one; new advanced approaches to treatment and therapy have been devised respectively and done extremely well. Given that back surgeries are risky, Joe Rogan claims there are other ways to treat the back, and if you’re wondering what that could be, well, that’s stem cell therapy.

Try stem cell therapy, suggests the JRE host

Yes, in recent times, stem cell therapy has gained some popularity among not just athletes but regular people as well. People believe it to be a much better alternative to back surgeries. Due to stringent laws regarding the administration of stem cells in the US, Joe Rogan claims many people travel to other countries to avail the same treatment, and he even has some friends running a medical institution for it as well.

“There’s a way to also deal with it with stem cells and one of the things they’re doing now… people are going overseas and other countries to do it, and I have some friends that run a clinic down in Tijuana, The Cellular Performance Institute,” said Joe Rogan. Meanwhile, multiple-time surfing world champion, Shane Dorian, who the longtime UFC commentator claims to be a friend of his, availed stem cell therapy in his friends’ Tijuana clinic as well.

“My friend Shane Dorian, who is a world champion surfer, had pretty severe back problems. He went there, and they are injecting directly into the discs and there is a strict protocol of recovery. You’re not doing anything physical for like a couple of months. After that, you can walk essentially,” Joe Rogan added.

Back injuries can cause severe problems in the long run if untreated. As such, many people are slowly becoming aware of the ways they can manage the health of their backs. Nevertheless, what are your thoughts on Joe Rogan’s revelations about his back problems? Drop your comments below.
