Derrick Lewis holds the record for the most knockouts in the UFC at 14. The 38-year-old’s contract with the UFC is up, and he is hopeful for a contract renewal with the promotion. And he proved his worth and reputation as a veritable knockout artist at UFC 291 with his brutal flying-knee knockout of Marcos Rogério de Lima in thirty-three seconds, not unlike Jorge Masvidal‘s flying-knee knockout of Ben Askren in 2019. At 5 seconds, this was the quickest knockout in UFC history.
And ‘Gamebred’ was asked about Lewis Knocking out his teammate in such a vicious fashion by TNT Sports on their YouTube channel. Here’s what he had to say.

On being asked about the Knockout, the Cuban-American admitted thinking the heavyweight had broken his record for the quickest UFC knockout as de Lima fell to the ground in 3 seconds. “I thought he broke the record [for the quickest knockout] because by the time he dropped onto the floor, it was like 3 seconds. I was like, he broke the record, and then the guy shelled up. And then, like, the time went but I was like, oh snap, he broke the record right in front of my face,” he said.
Masvidal was impressed by ‘The Black Beast’ but was disappointed to see his fellow America’s Top Team Gym stablemate, de Lima, at the receiving end of the American’s flying knee. Lewis also indulged in some amusing celebrations following his victory that seemed to be inspired by the WWE.

Derrick Lewis knocks out de Lima and celebrates in style
Derrick Lewis came out swinging against de Lima and caught him with a flying knee. The Brazilian fell to the floor, and after a brief exchange on the ground, the bout was stopped by the referee. All of this took a total of 33 seconds. Lewis then fell to the ground on his toes and fists, a la Randy Orton, followed by Chris Benoit’s thumb-across-the-throat. He finished his celebration by taking off his shorts and giving the DX chop. The 38-year-old had a lot of fun in what could potentially be his last fight in the UFC. Of course, fans would love to see him back, and his electrifying performance had proven his worth as a fighter.

But if the UFC chooses not to re-sign him, he would make a good opponent for Francis Ngannou at the PFL. The duo met in the octagon in 2018, and Lewis emerged victorious. A rematch would give the former UFC heavyweight champion the chance to avenge his loss and would be an exciting matchup for the fans. Either way, chances are, Lewis will be fine.
