‘Chaos’ is back! After Ian Garry was moved to the main event of UFC 310, Colby Covington replaced him to measure forces with Joaquin Buckley in the new main event of UFC Tampa. Sixth-ranked Covington hasn’t seen action since a unanimous decision loss to Leon Edwards in the main event of UFC 296. The MMA Masters fighter, former interim champion, is 1-2 in his last three fights, and if he loses again, he could fall out of the top 10. But while being out of the top 10 can be devastating, nothing could top the scary moment when it was revealed to ‘Chaos’ that he might be dropped out of the UFC altogether!
Yes, you read that right. In a massive confession made by the UFC fighter on ESPN MMA, the 36-year-old revealed that the UFC wanted to cut ties with him as Dana White and company weren’t big fans of his fighting style. “The UFC went to my manager and said, ‘Hey, you know we don’t like his style, so we’re going to cut him after this next fight.’ I was devastated.” However, he soon turned things around for himself by getting inspired by a childhood hero of his. So who is it? Well, it’s none other than Ric Flair.
‘Chaos’ confessed that after the UFC told him of the firing, he knew that something had to change and that he needed to rebrand himself to keep his job. So to do so, he turned himself into an ultra-confident, showboating fighter like the gimmick of Ric Flair. He said, “I am a big fan of pro wrestling. I love everything that it brings—the entertainment, the energy that’s in the arena—it’s so exciting. Ric Flair is definitely my favorite wrestler of all time. Ric Flair gave me so much useful knowledge that I needed to bring into the UFC world and spice it up in my own way.”

‘The Nature Boy’ is known for his flamboyance and exudes confidence that others could only dream of, a perfect gimmick for Colby Covington to adapt. And it won’t be wrong to say that it worked. Unlike the warning that was revealed in the interview, ‘Chaos’ was not cut off by the UFC, and soon he climbed the ranks to become the promotion’s Interim UFC Welterweight Champion by defeating Rafael Dos Anjos in 2018. With his next fight against Joaquin Buckley being very important in order to keep his top 10 spot, Covington will need all the inspiration that he can get. But what if he fails? Well, even then he might have an alternate option prepared, the WWE.

Colby Covington might jump ship to pro wrestling
The UFC and WWE merger sparked a frenzy in the combat sports industry. Fight fans all across the world wondering what this major move would bring to the table. One such excited fan is Colby Covington, as ‘Chaos’ has previously expressed his wishes to be a part of the WWE roster in the future, claiming that he sees himself being a successful fighter in the Triple H-led promotion as well.

During an interview with ‘Submission Radio,’ Colby Covington expressed his excitement for the merger by saying that MMA and wrestling have been his first loves since childhood, and seeing the two under the same umbrella excites him to the core. However, he isn’t just interested in being a mere spectator; instead, he wishes to try his hand at the sport as well. He said, “I do see myself crossing over into the WWE and becoming a multi-champ. A multi-time world champion over there.”
As shocking as it may sound, it shouldn’t be too surprising for fans since Covington would not be the first wrestler to make the step from MMA to WWE. From Ronda Rousey to Caín Velásquez, there are several who have made the switch from the realm of MMA to pro wrestling. However, it would be interesting to see how a savage like Covington survives in the censored world of the WWE. What do you think? Will ‘Chaos’ find success if he ever jumps ship?
