From coding algorithms to grappling submissions, Mark Zuckerberg has proved he’s more than just a tech mogul! Recently, Zuckerberg made headlines by participating in a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament on May 6, 2023. What shocked the world, even more, was the fact that he not only competed but also managed to secure both a silver and gold medal in the gi and no-gi divisions.

However, controversy soon followed Zuckerberg‘s remarkable achievement. During one of the jiu-jitsu fights, where Zuckerberg ultimately lost, the referee, Lucas Costa made a statement claiming that the tech giant had been snoring and was choked out unconscious.

Soon, Zuckerberg‘s representatives were quick to deny these allegations. According to the Meta owner’s story, he had not lost consciousness at any moment in the match. This conflicting narrative sparked a heated debate surrounding the incident. Recently, UFC veteran Chael Sonnen has come out to discuss this recent chapter in Zuckerberg’s life.

Chael Sonnen defends Mark Zuckerberg and bashes the referee

Recently, Sonnen uploaded a YouTube video titled ‘Mark Zuckerberg Denies Losing Consciousness At Grappling Event.’ In it, the former UFC fighter expressed his frustration with the referee. He criticized the referee’s decision to embellish the story, seeing it as an attempt to embarrass the Facebook founder.

“I want to unleash on that referee but I don’t think I have the right. I don’t think I’ve got the right. People tell you, sports shouldn’t be personal, well God damn it it is! When you go out there in that situation, it doesn’t go the way that you want, that’s bad enough. And if somebody tries to add to that then say that you were all the way unconscious, I mean they did that to try to embarrass him.”

“Zuckerberg hung in there and didn’t tap. He wanted it so bad that he went to sleep. We’ve always in this sport given credit to guys like that. So if he actually had the b*lls to do it on his first time out he’s handing bravado back.”
