The UFC president, Dana White, believes that it’s time for Chris Weidman to finally call it quits. Weidman recently fought at UFC 292 against the tough Brad Tavares. The bout ended in a unanimous decision in favor of Tavares. The showdown against Tavares was a crucial one for Wiedman, as it was his comeback fight in the world’s biggest MMA promotion. Weidman, with a 15-6 MMA record and 11-6 in the UFC, broke his right leg during his initial kick against Uriah Hall at UFC 261. He was soon taken out on a stretcher and went through surgery.
After two long years, he finally came back to the UFC. However, this time, too, he faced another horrifying injury. The physical condition of the former UFC middleweight champion compelled Dana White to ask him to retire. White believes that Weidman was a great fighter when was in his prime, but now he is not physically fit to fight. What does White want from ‘The All-American, and where does Weidman fit into UFC’s future plans?

During the post-fight press conference of UFC 292, White mentioned that he wants Weidman to retire as he faced yet another severe injury during his bout against Tavares. He said, “I love him, I love his family and I think he should retire. We spoke to (Dr. Davidson) and he thinks he blew either his ACL, PCL or MCL. The guy is coming back from a gruesome injury and father time is not our friend at all” White made it clear that it wouldn’t be a wise choice for Weidman to continue in the sport.

Dana White further mentioned the seriousness of the knee injury Weidman recently faced. The UFC boss believes that he should retire so that he won’t end up doing more damage to his body. The 54-year-old added, ‘The All-American’, has nothing else to prove to the world. According to White, Weidman has already proven that he is a great fighter.

During the same press conference, Dana White asked yet another fighter to retire. The fighter was none other than Joe Lauzon. His last bout in the promotion was against Jonathan Pearce at UFC on ESPN 6, which was held in October 2019. Lauzon asked the UFC boss to give him a fight at UFC 292 several times. He even proposed that he would fight against Chase Hooper in his comeback fight. However, White was not ready to consider the request of the 39-year-old.
White said, “That wasn’t his services weren’t needed; the card was full. At the time that he was asking, we already had the card full.” However, the UFC boss later stated that it was time for ‘J-Lau’ to retire. White made it clear that he might not give Lauzon another chance at the promotion. According to the boss, Lauzon might also face a similar fate to Weidman’s.
