Tony Ferguson is a veteran UFC fighter like no other. He first made his grand debut in The Ultimate Fighter in 2011 and his triumph made him an instant phenom. The fighter was soon seen as a force of nature in the UFC. His 12-fight win streak is still considered one of the most legendary of all time.

However, with those things being said, fans suspect that ‘El Cucuy’ may have fallen from grace. The fighter did not lose a single fight between 2013 and 2019 until he finally fell to the man himself, Justin Gaethje. This happened in their 2020 bout at UFC 256. Now, as he aims to make a grand comeback, let’s scour how he even landed this next fight!

That’s right, Tony Ferguson is going to go up against Paddy ‘The Baddy’ in his next fight. An episode all be about who strikes faster and stronger. The Baddy is encouraged by his last 6 consecutive wins, while the 39-year-old ‘El Cucuy’ has had a losing streak of about 6 matches now. This halves his winning streak making him real desperate for a win.

While speaking in an interview, Ferguson revealed to Brett Okamoto, how the fight came to be. “I texted Hunter, set up and I had a good talk with him,” said Ferguson. “And I sent him some messages and he sent me back, and I have a really good relationship with the brass we’re talking about like Hunter and Dana you know even Sean and it’s cool”

“When I talked to my agent I told him the things and the steps that I was doing to make myself better and I talked to them and I said the exact same thing and Hunter said, . . . won’t reiterate what he said but they had something good for me.”

Hunter Campbell is the UFC’s Chief Business Officer and one can tell that Ferguson has been in the business for so long, merely based on these contacts. Even Dana White is well connected to the fighter and everyone could see improvements.

This was pretty much how it went when Ferguson decided to take matters into his own hands and ‘decided on a win’. His reach with the brass is reliable enough but not enough for a prompt reply apparently.

While Ferguson trained and got into the best shape possible, Dana White and Co. made their decision. Paddy Pimblett is a legend of his own and has come off of three wins in just the last year. The decision for the exciting fight may have taken ‘El Cucuy’ a bit off-guard.

“I didn’t hear anything for a while and then all of a sudden you know, asked my agent and he ends up hitting me up and, he says hey we got something.”
