A feud between Nate Diaz and Gilbert Burns developed last year when Burns was scheduled to fight Kamaru Usman. Diaz was one fighter who criticized the match-up heavily. As a result, he developed a rivalry with both Burns and Usman. Now, after ‘Durinho’s’ latest victory over Stephen Thompson, the Brazilian looked to call out the Stockton native for a fight.

But after the lack of interest shown by Diaz, Gilbert Burns responded with a tweet. It said, “That’s what I thought @NateDiaz209 you don’t want no smoke! So don’t say my name anymore, bitch a** fake gangster! So many losses you have already! And your teammates that I already beat knows what I would do to you! Keep playing smart and save”

The tweet caught the eye of Nate Diaz’s teammate and former UFC fighter Jake Shields. It offended Shields because he was the one who had actually defeated ‘Durinho’ in a grappling match.

In response, Jake Shields ridiculed Burns and wrote, “Not sure what teammate of Nate you beat because I remember beating you and a draw another time. I’ll give you another shot if you think you can beat me But so far you are 0-1 against @NateDiaz209 teammates.”

Who could win the grappling rematch between Gilbert Burns or Jake Shields?

Shields and Burns fought in a grappling bout at Submission Underground in 2017. Now, four years later, Shields is 42 years old. He hasn’t fought an MMA fight since 2018. Despite that, the veteran remains active in grappling contests. His last fight came in a losing effort against Brent Primus at SUG 14. Shields is on a three-fight losing streak in the grappling contests and doesn’t look at his best.

On the other hand, Gilbert Burns is in his prime. ‘Durinho’ is coming off a win in his last grappling match at SUG. He has a record of 44 wins and 18 losses. As Jake Shields, who is well past his prime, has 11 wins and 9 losses, Gilbert Burns would be the favorite to beat Nate Diaz’s teammate if they grappled in 2021.
