Silva's emotional moment in the octagon—does it make you respect him more as a fighter?

Lightweight star Drew Dober had one of his roughest and toughest outings at UFC Denver. He faced the unranked Jean Silva, who left him with a big cut on his right eyebrow, prompting the doctor to stop the fight. While that was the biggest tale from the Denver Fight Night, Silva, on the other hand, appeared to get a bit emotional after the win, talking about his late sibling.

Very few people or maybe no one would argue that the UFC’s return to Denver can be deemed to be an exciting one. Why? Well, the fighters put up impressive performances to the Denver crowd at the Ball Arena. As mentioned already, the Drew Dober vs. Jean Silva fight was the most action-packed bout, which was won by the latter and turned out to be an emotional win for the Brazilian.

Following the fight, Jean Silva spoke about his late brother, and as far as people observed from his statements, his sibling might have played an important role in his journey to become a UFC fighter. “Truth be told, I miss my brother right now,” Silva stated in a post-fight backstage interview.

Jean Silva would further add that his brother’s presence could have made his win over Drew Dober even more special, but that couldn’t happen. ‘Lord’ Silva also added a few words for his opponent, the 35-year-old veteran, showcasing great sportsmanship to the lightweight star. Drew Dober has long called the Coloradan capital of Denver his home and it might have been a bad experience to have lost in that city, but Silva put him at ease with his kind words.

“I love this [sport] but I think it would be awesome if he was here,” Jean Silva added. “I was happy and sad. [Dober is] such a great guy… beautiful family but you know what? Thinking a lot about my brother now.” It remains to be seen if this win can help the Brazilian break into the top 15 as he continues his undefeated UFC run. Meanwhile, let’s take a look at what went down at the fight.

Dober vs Silva – as it happened

Despite a great back-and-forth contest, it was all Jean Silva at UFC Denver. The Brazilian outstruck Drew Dober in all three rounds, landing a total of 53 out of his 109 strikes, while the latter, despite managing to land six more strikes, 59 out of 147 attempts, could not overpower Silva. Moreover, ‘Lord’ Silva also avoided all of the four takedown attempts from Dober, who’s a brown belt in jiu-jitsu.

Furthermore, as the third round began, a few massive shots were all Jean Silva needed to reopen the big gash on Drew Dober’s eyebrow. The amount of blood that poured out suggested that maybe the Omaha native got blinded by it. After the cage-side doctor made his evaluation, Dober was rendered unable to continue and a TKO win was given to Silva.
