UFC 279 was one of the craziest cards even before it started, and the main event was as chaotic as anybody could have wanted. Two veteran warriors – Nate Diaz and Tony Ferguson – left everything inside the Octagon as they put on an instant classic.

Nate Diaz became the first athlete to submit Tony Ferguson inside the Octagon.

The Stockton star had a tough outing against a seasoned ‘El Cucuy‘. However, after a back-and-forth contest, Diaz submitted the former UFC interim lightweight champion to get his hand raised in his potential last UFC bout.

Nate Diaz announced his future move in the post-fight Octagon interview with Joe Rogan.

“I love the UFC,” Diaz said to the veteran UFC commentator. The Stockton superstar also thanked UFC President Dana White and the promotion after the ‘longest’ UFC run.

Boxing, kickboxing, jiujitsu, or other MMA promotions – Diaz kept the doors open for everything in combat sports moving forward. However, with his comment that Conor McGregor (who boxed Floyd Mayweather) did it, perhaps he hinted at a future in boxing.
