Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier is a former interim lightweight champion who competes in the lightweight division. The star was last seen in UFC 291 facing against Justin Gaethje. Since then, the fighter has yet to return to the ring. In a recent YouTube video, Poirier gives an insight as to why he still pushes himself to fight. 

The 34-year-old has had some memorable fights inside the Octagon. However, the fighter feels that his love for sports motivates him to return to the ring after getting knocked out in his last match. Whom will he face next?

‘I do it because I love it’- Dustin Poirier

Dustin Poirier is a superstar of the sport. Even after spending 12 years in the sport, Dustin still feels motivated. In his last fight against Justin Gaethje, Poirier suffered a loss via knockout. However, the 34-year-old is motivated to fight, and his love for the game remains intact. Poirier made his UFC debut at UFC 125 and won the match against the no.1 contender, Josh Grispi. Since then,’ The Diamond’ has entertained the fans altogether. 

In a recent YouTube video, Poirier gives us insight into his thought process. He said, ‘From the first fight, I knew I cannot fight forever. You know you got to set up yourself in a good spot. I mean, I don’t have to fight. I fight because I love it’. In the video, Poirier also throws some light on his different businesses. As a fighter, Poirier has achieved a lot inside the ring but is still hungry for more. 

In his last fight with Gaethje, Poirier got knocked out after a brutal head kick. Although the loss is fresh, he is ready for his next match. The 34-year-old still wants to fight at the highest level and wants to carry on his legacy ahead. When will ‘The Diamond’ return to the Octagon?

Is ‘The Diamond’ all set for a return at UFC 300?

A former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion and a likely future Hall of Famer, Poirier is eyeing the UFC 300. Poirier has done just about all there is in MMA. But one thing he still needs to achieve is to take part in one of the UFC historic cards like the UFC 100. However, now the 34-year-old is set to change this in 2024. What constitutes the right opponent for him is yet to be decided.

Coming off a loss against Gaethje, Poirier has been vocal about not wanting to fight less marketable names in the Lightweight. With the lightweight division seemingly thin of quality opponents, Poirier denies moving into a different weight division as well. Will we see Poirier fight in UFC 300?
