Israel Adesanya got handed his third loss in Dana White‘s promotion at UFC 293. However, it was a loss that nobody saw coming as Sean Strickland scored a unanimous decision victory over ‘The Last Stylebender’ to become the new middleweight champion. Following the upset loss, Adesanya didn’t have much to say during the post-fight presser.

Israel Adesanya was the firm favorite to win, heading into the main event of UFC 293. However, Sean Strickland beat ‘The Last Stylebender’ in his own game. ‘Tarzan’ nullified Adesanya’s strikes to claim the title in a decisive win. This loss must have taken a toll on the Kiwi fighter, as he was lost for words later.

UFC 293’s main event will certainly go down in history as one of the biggest upsets ever in the promotion. As such, Israel Adesanya mentioned that he had different plans for the press conference. However, he could not go through with his plans after the unexpected loss. ‘Izzy’ said, “I had a different plan for this. But again, life throws curveballs.”

He mentioned that there were no plans for him to talk much, even if he had won the fight. Moreover, he gave credit where credit was due and congratulated and praised Strickland for his performance. “Win or lose, I wasn’t gonna say much, anyway. Right now, I lost tonight to the better man on the night,” said ‘The Last Stylebender’. Furthermore, at this point, after losing the belt, he preferred to be with his loved ones.

Adesanya’s early exit from UFC 293 press conference explained

Israel Adesanya was visibly emotional after the fight. He was expecting to win it pretty comfortably, but the opposite unfolded. Following the loss, he just wanted to stick around with his team, who were waiting for him. He further said, “I just wanna go be with people who care about me, my team. They’re waiting for me. So I am gonna do that.”

Moreover, he let his coach, Eugene Bareman, speak on his behalf. The former champion just wanted to take some rest and be with his family and get something to eat after the 5-round war in Sydney. “I will leave you with Eugene Bareman. He’ll handle this for the first time. I wanna go chill, have some breakfast, be with my family, and yeah, till next time,” said Israel Adesanya.

While it did come as a surprise to fans and even some UFC fighters that Sean Strickland won, Dana White has confirmed that there will be a rematch soon. Moreover, ‘Tarzan’ even agreed to battle Adesanya again. It remains to be seen if the Nigerian-born Kiwi fighter will bounce back from this loss or if he has another target in sight.
