Justin Gaethje in a recent interview shared his thoughts on how eager he is to run it back with Dustin Poirier. Speaking to the media before the ‘Fighters Only’, World MMA Award show, Gaethje picked Dustin Poirier as the winner in the upcoming bout with Charles Oliveira. However, he did say that the more he thinks about it, the less certain he is about who will end up on top.
When asked if Gaethje has been thinking about the rematch with Poirier, he said, “Yea I mean I’m a competitor, training and competing since day one. When you lose, you wanna get it back. In wrestling, football, baseball, basketball; you usually get the chance to get that shot back. But not in this sport.”

Gaethje further went on to say, “If I get that chance, I have to work my a*s off and make it come out different this time.” The ‘Highlight’ first faced Poirier at UFC Fight Night Poirier vs Gaethje back in 2018. The fight was an absolute war. Both fighters gave it their all and performed admirably. The ‘Diamond’ worked behind his jab, landing it consistently and using it to set up long combinations.
Gaethje, on the other hand, threw caution to the wind. Raising his guard high, he plodded forward, undeterred by Poirier’s combinations, to land some devastating leg kicks and punches of his own. The fight continued to unfold at a ridiculous pace, with both fighters having their moments. However, early into the fourth, Poirier would land a straight left hand that staggered Gaethje.
Poirier seized the moment and landed a barrage of punches to finish the fight. Since then, both fighters have gone on to accumulate win streaks to win interim titles, only losing to the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov. Ever since the loss, Gaethje has been calling for a rematch with Poirier. If Poirier can get past Oliveira to win the undisputed title, there is a very high possibility we see the rematch.

Justin Gaethje previews Charles Oliveira vs Dustin Poirier
Appearing on the UFC weigh-in show, Justin Gaethje breaks down the fight between Oliveira and Poirier. According to Gaethje, Oliveira has two rounds to win. The first two rounds, when both individuals are fairly dry and not as slippery, play to Oliveira’s advantage. As that will make it easier for him to get a takedown and set up submissions.

The longer the fight goes on, the more chances Poirier has of catching Oliveira with a shot. Poirier is a cardio machine who likes to take his opponents into deep water as the fight goes on and break them. The fight will be a competitive one, with both fighters putting it all on the line. Who do you think will end up victorious?
