Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev successfully defended his title at UFC 284. He had one of the toughest fights of his career against Alexander Volkanovski. However, Makhachev later found himself amidst allegations of cheating by using intravenous liquids (IV). His manager Ali Abdelaziz defended Makhachev after those accusations came to light. And now, he suggests that Alexander Volkanovski might have cheated too.

Ali Abdelaziz has been an active spokesperson for Islam Makhachev regarding the IV accusations slammed on the Dagestan native. He denied all allegations against the lightweight champion by claiming that Makhachev never used any banned substances after a photo of him having a needle mark on his left arm went viral on social media.

Ali Abdelaziz recently appeared in an interview with ‘The Schmo’ and mentioned about the IV allegations on the lightweight champion. He claims to have the utmost respect for Alexander Volkanovski. But he isn’t happy with his team for calling Makhachev a cheater. Abdelaziz said, “I respect Alexander… he is a great guy and I actually know one of his co-managers… But everybody in his team makes Alexander look bad by talking and making accusations.”

Abdelaziz claims that nobody should make any accusations without having any proper proof. He also mentioned that he had a lot of respect for Dan Hooker. But after these accusations, he didn’t know how to feel about ‘The Hangman’. Makhachev’s manager believes that Hooker is salty because the Dagestan native emerged victorious when they fought inside the octagon in 2021.

Abdelaziz lays down his set of accusations on Volkanovski

Makhachev’s manager mentioned that he got information from the UFC that ‘The Great’ weighed a couple of pounds heavier during the UFC 284 main event. He said, “In reality, and I got this from the UFC, [during] fight night, Alexander Volkanovski weighed two pounds heavier than Islam Makhachev.”

Abdelaziz added, “You’re talking about IVs? He weighed two pounds heavier than Islam.” He believes that Volkanovski’s coaches want to get famous, which propelled them to make “outlandish” claims about Islam Makhachev. Abdelaziz also believes that people like to target the Dagestani fighter more than anyone else in the UFC.
