The ‘do or die’ match
Masvidal fought against Kamaru Usman in both UFC 251 and UFC 261. UFC 251 was in the year 2020, and Masvidal lost the fight via a unanimous decision in the fifth round. UFC 261 was held in 2021, where the 38-year-old lost in round 2 by knockout. Even his fight against Colby Covington was hard for the fighter; even after trying his best, he lost in round five by decision.
The streaks of fights undoubtedly took a toll on both the fighters’ mental and physical health. He himself decided to get stronger than ever, for which a break was highly necessary. Nonetheless, the American fighter is now all set to square off at UFC 287 against Gilbert Burns. This match is undoubtedly going to be crucial for the fighter to prove that he is still one of the strongest welterweights in the UFC.
