For years now, Jon Jones has cemented his place in MMA’s Mount Rushmore list for countless fighting fans. However, this wasn’t the case back in the early 2010s. Rewinding to the start of the last decade, Jones was an upcoming star, making his way through the light heavyweight division. Recently, an intriguing video from that era has resurfaced, giving fans a big dose of nostalgia.

The video in question is from 2011. It features Jon Jones, Joe Rogan, and the Cuban-American comedian Joey Diaz. At that time, the current UFC heavyweight champion was preparing for his first title shot. The fight was against the MMA legend Maurício Rua. Moreover, many considered Rua as the first elite challenge for Jones. This is exactly what the humorous exchange between the three famous personalities in the video revolved around.

In the video, Jones, Diaz, and Rogan can be seen sitting in what seems like a bar. As the video starts, Rogan begins by introducing his friend, Joey Diaz in a humorous manner. “Ladies and Gentleman, Joey Karate speaks knowledge to Johnny ‘Bones’ Jones,” Rogan said, in his signature style.

As soon as Diaz took center stage in the video, he began by talking about Jones’ next fight. Intriguingly, he addressed ‘Bones’ as the world champion. However, Jones was not the champ yet, and many were doubting his abilities against Rua. “B*tches, I am here with the new world champion John ‘Bones’ Jones, representing 607, New Jersey”, Diaz said.

Further, Diaz predicted how Jones was going to finish the then-UFC champ to claim the title. “I feel bad for that Brazillian. He better work on his 10th planet sh*t. He is going to have a black forearm,” Diaz said. Interestingly, this is what happened! Jones finished Rua via TKO in the 3rd round to become UFC’s youngest light heavyweight champ.
