The age-old rivalry between boxing and Mixed Martial Arts is a never-ending affair. The rise of MMA and especially UFC in the past two decades has definitely impacted the sport of boxing in a big way. Fighters from both sports have been seen taking potshots at one another over social media to claim supremacy.
Recently, UFC’s surging middleweight contender, Sean Strickland, made news as the 30-year-old fighter claimed that he doesn’t like boxing one bit. However, the outspoken mixed martial artist has come up with a whole other take on the sport. He claimed that he hasn’t been struck in MMA sparring in over 9months but one boxing session with a professional has changed his perspective.
He said, “I don’t know why I subject myself to boxing lol I can go months sparring MMA and not get hit once…. 9 rounds in the pocket with this guy and I start questioning why any person would want to be a boxer!! Lol”

Sean Strickland has backpedaled on his comments about professional boxing
According to a report by MMA news, Sean attacked the sport of boxing with a scathing statement. He stated that mixed martial art is actually the safer sport for fighters. MMA allows fighters to adequately defend themselves from any and all forms of incoming damage.
In his recent statement, Strickland highlighted the key difference between MMA sparring and boxing and why he doesn’t like the latter.
“Let me tell you why I absolutely hate boxing. I can go months with mma and take ZERO brain damage. I’m about to box for 25 minutes and even if I dominate, I’m going to receive some brain damage. Absolutely retarded sport.”

Meanwhile, MMA allows the fighters to tap out, bringing an end to the contest. They can even use their entire body to block incoming punches, kicks, and even knees, something that is not possible in boxing. That might be the reason behind Strickland’s remarks.
