The Brazilian women’s fighter Norma Dumont pointed at a potential interim featherweight title fight against Holly Holm after claiming a victory over Aspen Ladd at UFC Fight Night.
Earlier, Holly Holm was scheduled to fight ‘The Immortal’ inside the octagon. However, she pulled out of the fight on short notice because of a knee injury. Hence, Ladd served as a replacement for Holm. However, she lost the fight. And ‘The Immortal’ claimed her third straight victory in the UFC by defeating Ladd.
Following her victory, Dumont appeared at the post-fight interview. She talked about her fight and few other things with the media. While expressing her interest in an interim title fight, she said, “I don’t want the division to get stagnant and for us not to have fights. And I would be totally willing to have that fight. I understand Amanda’s going to do a title defense and then later on a possible fight with Valentina. So we’d only be able to face each other by mid-year next year.”

She added, “So I definitely do not want to be not fighting for that long. I think a fight even for an interim belt with Holly could bring not just a fight for its own. But to bring some attention to the division. And to have other athletes come into the division with this particular winner of this fight to go on and fight Amanda.”

Will Norma Dumont Get an Interim Title Fight Next
The featherweight division lacks a certain amount of depth at the time and has very few fighters left. Hence, many believed the winner of the Ladd vs Dumont fight would possibly earn a shot at the featherweight gold against Amanda Nunes. However, the latter is currently set to defend her 135lbs gold strap at UFC 269.
Also, after her title fight at UFC 269, ‘The Lioness’ might face the women’s flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko, in a blockbuster trilogy fight.

This might leave ‘The Immortal’ vacant for a long period and, as said in the interview, she doesn’t want to stay out of the octagon for a long time. Also, Dumont has kept herself unbeaten 4-1 after her debut loss, which makes her a viable prospect for the title.
Hence, an interim title fight after the #2 Holly Holm recovers from her injury seems like a logical option for the promotion. As it will also give a boost to the hallowed featherweight division.
