Joe Rogan has been with the UFC for over two decades. The longtime commentator has been a part of several historic moments in the sport as he lent his voice to commentary. An ardent martial artist himself, Rogan has also befriended several legends of the sport during his career.
While these are some amazing perks of his job, he also has to go through certain difficult experiences. One of those is watching fighters get knocked out, especially legends who are on their way out. Rogan is no different from fans in wanting veterans to go out with their heads held high.

Therefore, he was not at all happy with the way UFC legend Frankie Edgar retired from the promotion. Furthermore, he did not approve of how Edgar’s family was present to watch his last outing in the octagon.

Joe Rogan recalls Frankie Edgar’s exit from the UFC
In JRE MMA Show #138, Joe Rogan hosted the #3 ranked UFC bantamweight, Cory Sandhagen. During their discussion, ‘The Sandman‘ mentioned he would compete until around the age of 37. The 30-year-old said, “I don’t wanna have my wife and kids watch me get knocked out a bunch of times.”
This comment reminded Rogan about how UFC legend Frankie Edgar exited the UFC as his kids watched from the audience. Edgar went out on a string of losses and one of those was against Sandhagen, who brutally knocked him out with a flying knee.
Speaking of Edgar’s last fight against Chris Gutierrez, Rogan said, “I was very apprehensive about that fight because I knew that Frankie had hip replacement surgery.” He continued, “I mean, he’s been around for so long. I mean, he beat BJ Penn for the title in Abu Dhabi. What was that, like, 2006 or something?”

The BJJ black belt further added, “That was a long f***ing time ago and then you know, you think about those wars that he had with Gray Maynard and all the fights that Frankie has been in, and to see his kids in the audience for that fight. Oh my God!”
Rogan did not approve of Edgar having his kids present to watch that fight at UFC 281. Gutierrez knocked him out with a knee to hand him his third loss in a row. Both Rogan and Sandhagen agreed it was a mismatch. Many fans had also turned on the UFC for making the fight.
A similar discussion about fighters having their children watch their fights ensued among UFC fans at UFC 278, where Leon Edwards brutally knocked out Kamaru Usman. Usman’s daughter was in the audience watching and had a heartbreaking reaction to her father’s KO.
