The Netflix documentary series, ‘McGregor Forever’, has made a boatload of revelations about Conor McGregor and his life. The documentary made the world of mixed martial arts revisit some of the iconic battles, as well as the backstage stories involving the fighter. One such story was about the time when ‘The Notorious’ announced his retirement from MMA through Twitter.

Without a doubt, the entire world began talking about the former double champion’s retirement. However, the beloved UFC color commentator, Joe Rogan, claimed that he didn’t believe the stories. ‘McGregor Forever’ revisited the time when he claimed that McGregor was simply trying to make the world talk about him. It wasn’t a surprise for many when Rogan was proved right, and the Irish fighter decided to return as a TUF coach.

Undeniably, McGregor’s documentary has revealed way too many facts about the fighter’s life. However, it also took the fans back to a time when the former UFC double champion decided to take a permanent break from the sport. 

In 2020, McGregor took to Twitter and shared a picture of himself with his mother. He wrote, “Hey guys I’ve decided to retire from fighting. Thank you all for the amazing memories! What a ride it’s been! Here is a picture of myself and my mother in Las Vegas post one of my World title wins! Pick the home of your dreams Mags I love you! Whatever you desire it’s yours.”

Although the world broke down in talks about the announcement, Rogan knew it was nothing but a publicity stunt. In the third episode, the JRE host said, “I don’t buy it for a second. I think Conor McGregor’s trying to get you to talk about him and you just did.”

That wasn’t the only time the ‘Mystic Mac’ announced his retirement on Twitter. There are several instances of it. In one of his tweets, he wrote, “Mma, I’ll never forget you! Easy work.”

In another instance, McGregor told ESPN that the sport has stopped exciting him. He claimed that there was nothing happening in the MMA world. He was simply going through options, but couldn’t stop at anyone.
