“I Do Remember Meeting Him and Telling My Dad …”- Former UFC Star Paige VanZant on Conor McGregor’s Rise

UFC superstar Conor McGregor catapulted the sport of MMA. His journey to the top of the featherweight division was nothing short of a movie. The Irishman believed in his abilities and let the world know about them. However, many doubted the witty trash talker and undervalued his flawless work inside the octagon. On the other hand, former UFC women’s fighter saw the Irish superstar’s potential pretty early in his career.

Paige VanZant has one of the biggest fan bases on social platforms due to her work inside and outside the octagon. Thus, she often interacts with her fans. Recently, ’12 Gauge’ was doing a Q/A on Instagram stories and one fan asked her if she has ever met ‘The Notorious‘.

She answered, “Basically best friends. Jk, But I do remember meeting him and telling my dad he was a fight genius and that he was going to be a mega star.”

Important to note that she was about to fly to Ireland, and thus fans asked her several questions about the Irish superstar. She also hinted at a visit to Conor McGregor’s pub.

Could Paige Vanzant become as big as Conor McGregor?

The former UFC fighter had a tough time going through the most stacked women’s division in the UFC, strawweight. After finding initial success, she lost a few fights against some of the top fighters in the division. However, with age on her side, the 27-year-old has found a new home in BKFC. Even though she is yet to get her hand raised inside the BKFC ring, she has performed really well.

Even the BKFC President has acknowledged her performances. However, David Feldman expects ’12 Gauge’ to win in her upcoming bout sometime this year.

Nevertheless, the Oregon native has managed to build a platform for herself such that she doesn’t need to compete in combat sports. She even transitioned to professional wrestling in AEW, where VanZant had a good run.

But would she capture the public imagination as ‘The Notorious’ did? Perhaps only time can tell.

There are rare athletes and then there are generational athletes, and Conor McGregor is definitely a generational athlete. It’s tough to tell what makes him this massive star and what’s the appeal behind becoming almost bigger than the sport itself.

Anyhow, VanZant is still young and has a bright future ahead of her in boxing, MMA, Pro-wrestling, and even in modeling and as a content creator.
