Is Francis Ngannou's pursuit of money overshadowing his legacy as a fighter?

The feud between Dana White and his former heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou, has been going on for years now. And with each passing press conference, it seems like new secrets get out regarding this heated enmity. Even UFC 308 witnessed the UFC head honcho revealing some lesser-known stuff regarding the newly crowned PFL Super Fights heavyweight champion.

During the post-fight press conference for UFC 308, a reporter reminded White of his words from a PowerSlap event. This urged Ngannou to quote, “He can’t handle this loss suffering to you. I’m sure he’s praying for my downfall. Which money is he talking about? Money that he owes me? They say we’re gonna give you back pay for the money we owe you from the Stipe and Ciryl Gane fights. All that they never paid me back. Now I made more money than I would have ever made in the UFC. I would say twice the money in my entire UFC career.”

As soon as the UFC CEO heard those words, he denied it all. Instead, he seemed to believe that Ngannou owed him money for making him watch his fight against Derrick Lewis, at UFC 226. He said, “He’s full of s–t there! Then, I lost? I didnt lose anything!” The UFC boss went on to claim that he didn’t really think about his former champion, except while answering the media’s questions.

White revealed that he wanted to cut ‘The Predator’ off way before things went downhill between the two of them. But soon, Ngannou became the heavyweight champion of the world. But that didn’t really matter to White. He claimed, “I didn’t like Francis as a person. Wasn’t a guy I wanted to do business with. My boys were telling me, ‘He’s misunderstood.’ And I told them, ‘When somebody shows you who they are, believe them!’” He continued, “Francis isn’t a good guy. He plays a good guy. ‘I don’t understand the language’ and you know, so he seems like a nice guy. He’s not! And he’s not a guy that I wanted to be in business with. Period! End of story! Whether he became the champion or not.”

Dana White believed that Francis Ngannou was all about the green bills. Well, that’s what he said during the pre-fight press conference for UFC 308.

Dana White bashes Francis Ngannou for his money-mindedness

As the UFC was getting ready to mark its 20th event in Abu Dhabi, White got his attention shifted to Ngannou’s fight against Renan Ferreira. While the UFC head honcho did praise the former UFC champion for his KO victory, he didn’t leave a chance to lash out at Ngannou.

Have an interesting take?

Talking about the heavyweight’s paycheck, White said, “I’m going to tell you what I think about Francis. Francis is all about money. Francis left because he knew that if he fought Jon Jones and didn’t win, it would hurt his chances of making the money he wanted to make. But realistically, his deal was bigger here. His deal was bigger here if he stayed in the UFC. I think I’ve told this story a million times.”

Nevertheless, White did have some good times with Ngannou, while he entertained the fight fans under the banner of UFC, don’t you think? But when it comes to money, ‘The Predator’ received a hefty paycheck of about $12 million for fighting Ferreira at PFL Super Fights: Battle of the Giants. No doubt, it was an amount that many UFC athletes still dream about.
