Since taking over the role of UFC President, Dana White has put his heart and soul into growing the promotion to be the face of MMA. White became the president of the company in 2001 and has helped in growing it significantly. After buying the company for just $2 million, White and the Fertitta brothers sold it for upwards of $4 billion in 2016. A large part of this growth came under the leadership of White, who always identified and promoted top talents. However, Dana White recently hinted that while he intends to keep going full speed ahead, the end of the road is in sight for him.

White recently sat down with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto for the year-end review for 2022. During their chat, they recapped 2022 and talked about the UFC’s plans for 2023. He also talked about retiring while discussing plans for a UFC Africa card.
Dana White comments on his retirement from the UFC
While talking to White, Okamoto asked him about a potential UFC Africa card and White’s interest in it. He mentioned how the 53-year-old was not keen on it until recently. Okamoto wanted to know what sparked the UFC head honcho’s interest in sending the UFC to the region.
White said, “I’m nowhere near retiring, but let’s be honest. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I mean I was 30. I’m 53. I’ll be 54 this summer.” He continued, “We get on this hamster wheel here you know? Every Saturday, every Saturday, every Saturday and the next thing you know it’s December and another year is up.”
The 53-year-old added, “So if I don’t seriously start looking at Africa and making the moves to do something over there, another 10 years will be gone and you know. It’s a focus for me right now. It’s something I want to do and once I set my mind to do something, I do it.”
While talking about the future of the UFC in 2023, White also threw some light on the return of Conor McGregor.

Upon being asked the inevitable Conor McGregor question, White said that McGregor will let them know when he’s ready to return. “Conor’s fun man, Conor’s popular. People love Conor. People love the energy around a Conor McGregor fight, you know?” However, White admitted he leaves McGregor alone and does not chase any fighters.
Essentially, he meant that once McGregor gives the green light, his return will happen. Speaking of a potential opponent for his return fight, White name-dropped Michael Chandler, labeling it a ‘fun fight.’ He added how people were already talking about the fight and it had gathered attention from the fans.
