Conor McGregor, chillin’ like a villain on New Year’s Eve, announced in a video that he would be fighting Michael Chandler at middleweight on June 29 this year. However, UFC CEO Dana White has come out and flat-out denied the claim at the UFC 297 post-fight press conference, implying McGregor was not ready for UFC 302.

This has stranded Michael Chandler, who has been waiting to fight the Irishman for nearly two years, in no-man’s land. However, the former Bellator champion seems undeterred and recently spoke on how he is using positive visualization to prepare for the fight.

On a recent video on his YouTube channel, Michael Chandler spoke on how he prepares for big moments and how he is able to deal with his nervousness when the bright lights are on him. The American revealed that he was a big proponent of the positive visualization technique, wherein he can already picture being in the octagon across from Conor McGregor for their big fight in extensive detail.

“I can see a UFC octagon. I can look left, and look right, and I can see a big arena. I can close my eyes, I can look across and I can see Conor McGregor. I see Bruce Buffer to my left as he’s yelling on the microphone. I can see Herb Dean right now, I see Mark Godard, I can see the referee, I can see the logos on the mat,” Chandler said.

This, the lightweight felt, could be used by anybody in their life before doing things that make them nervous. “Stepping in the room before you step in the room… seeing yourself as confident, showing up as confident even if you are not confident… see yourself performing with confidence see yourself moving with confidence… see yourself over exceeding your expectations of what you think you’re capable of that’s how you deal with the nerves,” he added. While Chandler may already be visualizing fighting Conor McGregor, Dana White’s remarks have put him in a tight spot.

Chandler likely to wait for Conor McGregor

After Dana White confirming that Conor McGregor will not be fighting in June, Michael Chandler faces a difficult choice. He could either wait for the Irishman to ‘get ready’ as White suggested, but the wait could last another year or even indefinitely if the $200 million net worth McGregor decides to retire after all.

On the other hand, if he chooses to forego a McGregor fight, it would rob him of what would have probably been the biggest paycheck of his career by far. All of this may be a ploy by ‘Mac’ to get Chandler to not fight him. However, Chandler, who is a keen businessman along with being a world-class fighter, is unlikely to do so. The money that he can make fighting McGregor is just too much.
