The welterweight division of UFC has established a dominant champion in Kamaru Usman. The 34-year-old champion is still undefeated in the promotion and has managed to rake up an unbeaten win streak of 15 fights in a row.

Rivaled only by fellow compeer in Leon Edwards, who is currently on a 9-fight win streak of his own. The two are all set to clash with one another again, giving Edwards a chance to lift the title and get revenge for one of the losses he suffered in the promotion.

Edward’s manager Tim Simpson made a special appearance in MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, where he was quizzed about the current state of the division and his fighter.

Simpson promised that nothing is set just yet, as the champion is still dealing with an injury. However, he is confident that his client will be next in line to face the champion as UFC’s president, Dana White, has backed him as well.

He said, “I can’t see anything disrupting that, unless you know Kamaru is out for like a year or so, we gotta figure something out. But Leon is and I don’t need to go over with what that guy’s been through like at this stage.”

“He is patient, and he deserves it, and when Dana comes out and says like ‘he deserves it, he’s been through this’, it’s been out of his control. He has signed three bout agreements to fight Khamzat when allegedly no one else would? I believe the UFC will do right by him”

Will we see Leon Edwards fight for the title in 2022?

At this current stage, it seems highly plausible for the English fighter to fight for the UFC gold. It is impossible for the promotion to overlook this massive win-streak in the 170 lbs division. With a dominant champion like Usman, the matchmaker must be in a rush to get this fight confirmed.
