During his interview with MMAFighting, Covington expressed his interest in a potential fight against Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. Covington did not hold back, confidently stating that he believes he would outmatch Adesanya both in striking and on the ground. With characteristic bravado, Covington asserted that he would dominate Adesanya, breaking him down inside the Octagon.

“Absolutely (referring to the fight against Adesanya), I think that’s a huge fight and it’s a fight of high magnitude. I like the matchup, to be honest, I don’t think he can hang with me. I think I take him down, I beat him from pillar to post and I just break him inside that Octagon.”

He claimed himself to be a “cardio king” and pitted his potential fight with Adesanya as a Champion vs Champion match. Clearly, Covington made a subtle prediction of winning the Welterweight title by defeating Leon Edwards in his next fight.

“He can’t hang with the cardio king. He’s not ready for all-American steel and twisted sex appeal. I would love that fight, champion versus champion. USA versus wherever he’s from, New Zealand or whatever.”

Colby Covington about fighting Islam Makhachev

Colby Covington also discussed the possibility of a future fight against Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. Covington, known for his wrestling prowess, suggested that he could comfortably make the Lightweight limit and take on Makhachev.

Moreover, he even labeled the Lightweight champion as a weight bully. Going a step further, Covington even took a jab at Makhachev’s mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“I think it’s a very realistic possibility. There were conversations backstage in the past if I could make 155 because I don’t cut much weight. I know we probably walk around the same weight. He’s just a weight bully. He’s cutting all that weight to get the advantage at lightweight because there are no wrestlers. Of course, he wants to be in that division you know. The same division his Daddy Khabib used to own.”
