The UFC President, Dana White, always suggests the UFC makes the fights that make sense. However, there are, on occasions, some fights that don’t materialize for one reason or the other. Some dream fights like Anderson Silva-Georges St-Pierre, Anderson Silva-Jon Jones, Ronda Rousey-Cris Cyborg, and Khabib Nurmagomedov-Tony Ferguson never happened.

One of such generational fights, though, is not around to be made inside the UFC, yet it’s still possible.

A fight between arguably two of the absolute best fighters, the UFC welterweight GOAT, and UFC lightweight GOAT, could happen under certain circumstances. Georges St-Pierre and Khabib Nurmagomedov could square off in a grappling match.

In a recent interview with MMA journalist James Lynch, George St-Pierre talked about potentially locking horns with ‘The Eagle’.

Rush‘ said, “I don’t know… Listen, if it’s well organized, and you know if there’s some event that are well organized that are you know that it’s a novelty fight, something good maybe why not?”

St-Pierre continued, “I am still in the entertainment world; I’m in great shape; I train still like a professional athlete. I still get it… Even some of the guys sometimes, they tell me ‘hey are you preparing a comeback?’ I’m like, ‘no I’m 40 years old, I’m dome.’ … I like to stay in there and keep my head in the game.”

Even earlier, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s ally teased a grappling bout with the Canadian superstar under the Eagle FC banner.

A fight between St-Pierre and ‘The Eagle‘ was the dream fight for the latter’s father. However, even after a lot of talks from both parties, the UFC declined to make the fight.

Why was the UFC against Georges St-Pierre vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov?

When ‘The Eagle’ was reigning in the lightweight division, there were talks about St-Pierre dropping to 155 lbs to fight for the third UFC gold and create history. Even Nurmagomedov suggested he wouldn’t fight St-Pierre at 170. Thus, a fight for the 155 lbs belt made a lot of sense.

Yet, the UFC could get this fight done. Perhaps the reason is St-Pierre returning to fight after multiple years in the middleweight division and leaving the division thereafter. It’s always tough for a brand to build a champion that didn’t win a belt from the champion.

However, when Dana White, after Nurmagomedov’s retirement, tried to push for his bout, ‘The Eagle’ refused.
