Determining a GOAT in a sport as dynamic as MMA is probably more difficult than catching a fish in the dead sea. Moreover, the discussion becomes tougher when you talk about the best fighter in the lightweight division, which is probably the most competitive division in the UFC. Joe Rogan, a name synonymous with UFC, has been actively engaging in this GOAT debate on his podcasts.
Known for his unique and unfiltered opinions, the 55-year-old has suggested several names in this discussion. A few weeks ago, Rogan talked about the legendary BJ Penn being the lightweight GOAT over Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, he now seems to have slightly changed his opinion.

At the JRE MMA Show #139 with Bas Rutten, Rogan added Penn’s name to the list of GOATS in UFC. However, fans hammered him with heavy criticism, as they did not agree with the statement. Now, at the JRE MMA Show #142, the podcast host again touched on this topic. However, he seems to have slightly changed his opinions this time.
“I think you can make a real good argument that the prime BJ, when he beat Diego Sanchez, I would put that up against anybody ever. I am not saying Khabib couldn’t beat him. Because Khabib was a m*therf*cker. I don’t think we really can appreciate how much of a m*therf*cker he is, until after he is long gone.”

While Rogan still counted BJ Penn in the GOAT list, he also made an argument that the Eagle could defeat him. The 55-year-old then went on to praise Nurmagomedov for his dominating performances.

Whether you love him or hate him, Khabib Nurmagomedov has always been at the center of the GOAT debate. In JRE Episode #1977, Rogan made it clear that ‘The Eagle’ was the greatest when it came to dominance.
“In total dominance, Nurmagomedov is the G.O.A.T. Total dominance! Man just smashes everybody. Nobody had a chance. Do you understand how crazy it is to watch a guy storm through an entire division? There is no argument that he is the GOAT.”
