The upcoming match-up between Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal at UFC 286 is an exciting prospect for fight fans. Burns, who is ranked number fifth in the welterweight division, will take on the number eleven-ranked Masvidal. This promises to be a closely contested battle.
Both fighters have had impressive records in recent times. Burns has won eight of his last ten fights. This includes victories over former champions Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson. In a recent interview, Burns expressed his confidence that he could steal the title shot away from Covington, who is in talks to face champion Leon Edwards. Burns stated that if he could dominate Masvidal and finish the fight, he could enter the discussions of being the next title contender.
Covington‘s potential title shot comes after his return as a backup fighter for Leon Edwards vs Kamaru Usman. However, his inactivity in the UFC for a long time now is casting some doubt over whether he is truly deserving of another title shot.
“100 % I can steal the show. I can put (out) doubt on anyone’s mind. It all depends on the performance,” said Burns.
Burns thinks he can do what Covington and Usman could not!
Gilbert Burns highlighted that he aims to do what Covington failed to do in his last bout. Burns added that he believed he could do what it took Usman seven rounds to do in just one or two. He is referring to knocking Masvidal out in his fight.
Colby Covington’s fight vs Masvidal went the distance. Covington was able to win by unanimous decision. However, he was not able to finish Masvidal. Usman also could not knock out Masvidal in their first fight, which went to the judge’s decision. It was only in their second fight that Usman managed to knock Masvidal out.
