Did the brawl at Darren Till's debut outshine the actual fight? What does this say about boxing today?

Darren Till has had one of the worst fall from grace in recent history. The former UFC star has gone from giving reigning middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis a run for his money at their UFC 282 contest two years ago to fighting on a little-known influencer-boxing card.

During this time, the Englishman has been using his trolling skills to full effect, making noise and taking shots at other fighters, mostly celebrity boxers, trying to get himself a fight. And he finally found success and was scheduled to fight former boxing champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on the undercard of the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson bout on July 20. However, he was so incensed by the event being postponed that he pulled out, and chose to fight little-known Moh Mutie on the ‘Social Knockout 3’ boxing card on Saturday.

However, his boxing debut ended in disaster as a huge brawl broke out inside the ring after their fight had been called off. In the second round of the fight, Till was disqualified by the referee for punching his opponent on the back of his head. After the fight, Till and Mutie got into a heated verbal spat, which culminated in a brawl breaking out between the duo. Mutie successfully grabbed the former UFC fighter’s legs, and took him down, to the delight of fans.

Another agreed with this sentiment and felt that Till had made no improvements in his takedown defense all these years later: “Till still can’t defend the single leg lol.” Another fan felt that Mutie simply wanted an excuse to get out of the fight and used the illegal punches thrown at him as a way to end the fight: “Dude was looking for a way out and got it lol.”

One fan who had watched the first round of the fight commented that despite Till feeling wronged by the disqualification, his performance in the first round had been atrocious: “Till was awful in the first round though. Up against a complete bum and was struggling. He’ll get embarrassed by one of the better “Influencers”.” Meanwhile, another MMA fan, looking at the brawl after the fight, wrote, “Much better than the actual fight 😭.” Are you interested in giving Darren Till’s recent fight a look or is the clip of the brawl enough?
