Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson – the name says it all! A former UFC Light Heavyweight and Bellator MMA icon in his prime, the American has always been a tall figure among the GOATS and gurus in MMA. But there’s another side to Quinton’s legacy that often goes unnoticed.
‘Rampage’ was one of the big American names that headlined the Japanese retention of the UFC – Pride FC. During his stint there, he infamously got involved with the Japanese Mafia – the Yakuza. Yes, you heard it right. Recently, Rampage came out with an intriguing tale of his meeting with a Yakuza boss.

In a recent podcast, the UFC veteran revealed the behind-the-scenes tale of meeting with some members of the Yakuza. Apparently, after his iconic ‘SLAM’ to Ricardo Arona, he became quite the fan-favorite. To the extent that he was approached by one of the members of the Yakuza, and was informed that he had been called upon by their boss.
Even someone like Rampage admitted to being intimidated, stating, “I’ve seen them before, I never met him and they[Yakuza] were like, ‘Oh, my boss wanted to meet you.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t know that man.’
Moreover, revealing what it was like, “We went back there, it was a bunch of Japanese people back there watching ‘Jackass’ and they were smoking w**d… the boss came out,” Rampage added. Surprised by the ‘huge’ Yakuza boss, who the veteran claimed was 6 ‘6 with a ‘ripped’ body stature. He was the “biggest Japanese guy” according to the MMA titan.
An intimidating surprise for “Rampage”
What’s more – after meeting the boss, Rampage was surprised when the Yakuza head brought up Quinton’s brother, who was in Japan at the time. A shocked Jackson asked the boss, “How the f*ck do you know my brother here in Japan? He said, ‘I know everything that’s going around.’”

Even so, he didn’t let his bias cloud his judgments. Sharing his take on the Yakuza, he made a bold remark. “They didn’t seem like evil people – nothing you know. I’m God’s Street soldier, so I always stay away from evil…They were just – I feel like the Yakuza – they’re like the Samurais that had to go underground.”

In contrast to his POV of the Yakuza, Quinton stated that he considers them not as a threat but rather a necessity to Japanese society. Nonetheless, his reference to the Yakuza as ‘Samurais’ may be a bit exaggerated.
