Robert Whittaker is up for a solid fight against Paulo Costa at UFC 298. The middleweight fighter has cemented himself as a mainstay in the division and he’s also been the champion. In recent history, he’s gone up against multiple former champions himself. Now, his next fight will probably help him get back on track to challenge the champion yet again. If he wins, that is.

Whittaker has been with the promotion for a while now. In fact, he joined back in 2012 by defeating Bradley Scott. Since then he’s racked up an estimated net worth of about $4 million meaning his hard work has paid off, quite literally. So here’s how much he could be making against Costa at UFC 298.

Robert Whittaker has gone up against current champion Dricus Du Plessis before. This was his last fight back in 2023 at UFC 290. He ended up on the losing side of it all after getting knocked out in the second round of the bout. He reportedly got paid about $420,000 for that fight.

Meanwhile, even after losing to Israel Adesanya in their rematch, ‘The Reaper’ collected about $632,000 with a base pay of $600,000 and $32,000 in sponsorships. The first time that they fought, he made about $540,000 with a reported base salary of $400,000.

Clearly, he’s made much money in his last few fights. His average base salary seems to be around $400,000 with his more recent fights. However, when he fought Kelvin Gasteleum, his base salary was about $220,000 and he made more money from sponsorships, a win bonus, and a performance of the night bonus. This helped his total earnings stand at about $506,000.

So all in all, with his upcoming fight, one could assume that he’ll make anywhere between $300,000- $400,000 at least. Sponsorships and bonuses might pour in and it could shoot his earnings through the roof. ‘Borrachinha’ is a big opponent and this is a big fight. Moreover, their fight is the co-main event, which means that ‘The Reaper’ is in for a big payday, especially if he wins. But will his opponent pull out? With Paulo Costa, it’s a genuine concern.

Paulo Costa has had a streak of canceled fights coming up to UFC 298. The fighter also pulled out of his last fight at UFC 294 due to an elbow injury that eventually turned into an infection. It rendered him unfit to compete and now, fans are worried that something might happen again.

Fortunately, Costa has made it past the weigh-ins and is looking good on his feet. The fighter even told Sportstar that he’s about to show the world a “new” Paulo Costa against Robert Whittaker. “I fought in August of 2022 and I started training in January last year. That’s a lot of time. I think I have all the reasons to be confident for this fight. I’m in my prime, both physically and technically.”

“So, the fighter that everyone is going to see this weekend will be brand new. I’m excited to show everyone the new version of Paulo,” he said. Yes, the fact that he’s been away from the Octagon for a while is also concerning but he’s completely on the money about his prime. Will he win against Robert Whittaker now? Place your bets, folks.
