Many fans look at former champion Jiri Prochazka as a modern-day samurai. In the ancient days, it took a set of moral principles including honor, discipline, and loyalty to evolve a person into a samurai. Most fans would agree that the Czech Republic native has showcased all of these qualities in his pro-MMA career. Reports say that he also follows the ‘Bushido Code’ that guided the life of samurais back in the day.

But how far has his samurai-styled living and training helped him in his MMA career? The 31-year-old has often stunned UFC fans with his unusual but superbly accurate striking. Like a real samurai, Prochazka has adapted to the various combat scenarios presented by his rivals pretty quickly. Looking at all of these you may be wondering whether he has ever lost a fight in his career or not, and ahead of his second chance to reclaim the 205-pound title that he never lost against Alex Pereira at UFC 303, let’s find out the disappointing outings in his overall career.

If we talk about Prochazka’s UFC career, we will find that he has just one defeat to his name. But ‘BJP’ has only fought 5 of his 35 pro-MMA fights inside the UFC octagon. Sadly for him and his fans, he has tasted defeat more than once in his MMA career. Most MMA fans may agree that Prochazka is a fighter of the highest degree, with 30 wins out of his 35 fights. But, the 31-year-old carries 4 losses on his record as well.

Prochazka amassed a superb 4-0 from the beginning of his pro-MMA career in 2012. But, he was hit by a setback in his fifth fight as he picked up his first defeat. A Serbian fighter named Bojan Velickovic handed him his first pro-MMA loss via TKO in the first round of their encounter on 9 December 2012. Prochazka did recover well from his defeat but couldn’t continue his victory run for long.

He won the two fights that followed his first defeat but found himself on the wrong end of things yet again in his next outing. Prochazka picked up his second loss against Abdul-Kerim Edilov at their ‘Fight Nights – Battle of Moscow 12’ scrap that took place on 20 June 2013. This time it was a first-round rear naked choke from Prochazka’s rival that cost him the fight.

His third defeat came against Muhammed Lawal on the last day of 2015 while he was fighting under ‘Rizin FF’. ‘King Mo’ KO-ed ‘Denisa’ with a brutal right in the very first round of the fight. Finally, his last loss was his first UFC defeat at UFC 295, when ‘Denisa’ lost to Alex Pereira via 2nd-round TKO, leading to the latter’s second two-division triumph in his fighting career (since he was a dual-weight champion in Glory). This turned out to be his first loss in over 8 years. But it’s important to remember that the 31-year-old has only lost fights, but never dropped a championship.

Yes, Jiri Prochazka has never dropped a championship belt to anyone in his entire career. Whether he was fighting in Europe or if he was fighting in Japan, the Czech star has never lost a championship in his 35-fight-long career. In the UFC, Prochazka captured hold in only his third fight of the promotion, defeating Glover Teixeira, his upcoming opponent’s mentor.

In the latter half of 2022, Jiri Prochazka was set to defend his belt in a rematch against Glover Teixeira. However, a serious shoulder injury, which needed surgery, forced him to pull out of the fight, and as a means to not hold the division hostage, Prochazka showed great sportsmanship when he decided to relinquish his hardly-earned championship while he recovered from injury.

Alex Pereira is operating at a whole different level now. Flashy knockout wins after knockouts win. But will this short-notice decision come back to haunt him? It will be interesting to see if Jiri Prochazka can make the most of this opportunity and reclaim the title in what is arguably his final shot at ‘Poatan’s title. Can he secure a victory this time around? Only time will tell!
