The known UFC heavyweight, Jailton Almeida, has provided the fans with a show of his superior ground game multiple times. Even in his last fight at UFC on ABC 4, he gave no real chance to his rival, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, taking him down right from the initial minutes of the bout. After going to the ground, ‘Bigi Boy’ looked rather helpless before the Brazilian. He couldn’t even take the bout till the end of the first round as Almeida secured a superb rear naked choke, forcing a tap from him at the 3:43 mark.
A look at ‘Malhadinho’s’ record will reveal that he has fought five times under the UFC to date. Remarkably, he also holds an undefeated record in the promotion. But this might also spark a question among a large chunk of people in the MMA community. Has the Brazilian ever lost in his pro-MMA career? Or does he stand undefeated to date? The name of the noted UFC icon, Khabib Nurmagomedov, can’t be far away when the discussion is about fighters with superior ground games. It’s pertinent to note that, to date, Almeida boasts a huge similarity with Khabib as both hold an undefeated record in the UFC. But these two are nowhere comparable since Khabib retired from the UFC with an undefeated 13-0 record in the promotion.
However, most UFC fans also know that ‘The Eagle’ also holds an undefeated record in his entire pro-MMA career that reads 29-0. This is where he trumps the Brazilian. To answer the previously asked questions, Almeida has tasted defeat two times in his pro-MMA career to date. The Brotas neighborhood of Salvador native picked up the maiden defeat of pro-MMA career on 5 August 2017 against a fellow Brazilian fighter named Tyago Moreira.
‘Malhadinho’ made a strong comeback as he won his next fight via a first-round rear naked choke. But disaster struck him as he returned to losses right in his next bout. On 28 January 2018, Almedia took on Bruno Assis while he fought under ‘Shooto Brazil’. After a to-and-fro fight for three rounds, Almeida unfortunately ended up on the losing side as per the judge’s cards.
But this loss also became a turning point in his career, as it still stands as his last loss. Almeida has not lost in more than five years now, which also includes his five UFC fights. But will he be able to maintain his victory run even after his upcoming bout?
