Charles Oliveira hails from Brazil and was born in Vicente de Carvalho in Guaruja. Like most UFC fighters, he also had a humble beginning, and his family struggled to make ends meet. Hailing from Brazil, Oliveira’s mother tongue is Portuguese. The former lightweight champion is very fluent in the language and prefers to speak in the same. He also tried his hands at speaking English but it rarely gets him through interviews. It is noted that Charles is extremely fast in Portuguese during his post-fight interviews. Hence, after his interviews, a native Brazilian translator is brought in to translate his sentences from Portuguese to English.

Charles Oliveira is not pretty good at speaking English but he is far from giving up. He has always required a translator in his interviews, but on some occasions, he does try his hands at the language. After winning his last fight at UFC 289, Oliveira told the crowd, “The champion has a name, Charles Oliveira, brother.” This was one of those rare occasions where the Brazilian replied in English much to the surprise of the fans. Additionally, he also replies to posts on X in English as well.

Currently ‘Do Bronx’ is preparing himself for his upcoming fight at UFC 309 against Michael Chandler. The pair have previously faced each other at UFC 262 for the 155lbs strap so this will be a rematch at the Madison Square Garden. Charles won the previous encounter after he knocked out ‘Iron’ in the second round.
