Khabib Nurmagomedov is a Hall of Famer and a powerful fighter from UFC. Hailing from Dagestan, he changed the face of combat sports for Russia and paved the way for other Russian fighters to show what they are made of. The former lightweight champion might not be in the fighting scene anymore, but he trains his camp day in and day out to help them become champions.

He has two siblings, one brother and one sister who are both not into the UFC. Magomed Nurmagomedov is his older brother, and he has not pursued the UFC. He has a background in wrestling. Amina Nurmagomedov is Khabib’s sister and not much is known about her. He loves to keep his family private so not much is known, but his older sibling was a wrestler back in Dagestan and even appeared in Episode 7 of Dagestan Chronicles.
‘The Eagle’ introduced him as his brother and the eldest was pretty shy of the camera. Even though much is not known about his siblings, the fighter’s cousins from Russia have made a huge impact in UFC and everyone knows their names. So let’s see who his cousins are.
How many fighters are related to Khabib Nurmagomedov?
There are primarily three fighters who are related to the 29-0-0 athlete. He has three cousins: Usman, Umar, and Abubakar Nurmagomedov. Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov was a judoka and combat sports coach and decided to convert their two-story house into a gym. The first floor was converted into a gym where Khabib and all his cousins trained to become the best fighters.
Abubakar Nurmagomedov is the oldest among the three cousins and he used to fight at UFC. Interestingly, he had an infamous brawl with Conor McGregor at UFC 229. Due to this fiasco, he was also handed a one-year suspension by NSAC. The eldest lost his debut fight in the UFC to David Zawada and followed it up two wins and a defeat.
After that comes, Usman Nurmagomedov, who also has been undefeated like his cousin Khabib and has a 17-0-0 streak. He fights in the lightweight category and also participates in the Bellator series. The rising star has also fought in Gorilla FC which was then purchased by ‘The Eagle’ and renamed as Eagle FC.
The third in line is Umar Nurmagomedov, who grew up with Khabib. He has a 17-0 record in MMA and signed into UFC like his cousin. Unfortunately, his UFC debut was hindered because of COVID-19, but he still succeeded in the second-round win against Sergey Morozov with a rear-naked choke technical submission. Apart from his three cousins, he has two more fighters whom he treats as brothers and friends: Islam Makhachev and Amru Magomedov.

The number one P4P fighter, Islam Makhachev is one of the best fighters in UFC and the most powerful ranked fighter with an amazing record. Makhachev is keeping the legacy alive and continuing to set records while also being assisted by Khabib Nurmagomedov. The duo see each other as brothers, even though they are not related by blood or family ties. The two genius fighters grew up together in the rugged lands of Dagestan and were neighbors from a very young age.
Makhachev learned perseverance and hard work from his parents, but not much is known about them. His first seed of knowledge about hard work was through helping his father carry heavy boxes of vegetables, as his father was a tomato farmer. Makhachev’s mother was a powerful woman who looked after her family and ran a cafe to support the family.
Interestingly, the fighter once revealed that his mother does not like his fighting career because she is concerned for his safety. On the other hand, his father supports him and watches all his fights. He also has a brother named Kurbanismail Makhachev. Both Khabib and Makhachev knew each other before they entered UFC and practically grew up together in Dagestan.

The duo were trained by Khabib’s late father and were always a team throughout their martial arts career. While the two are not related by blood, Khabib’s father still considers him a son and treats him exactly like that. ‘The Eagle’ might have retired, but he still trains the fighters in the Dagestan camp and was even on Makhachev’s side while he fought against Dustin Poirier at UFC 302.
