The friends and former teammates, Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns are two prominent names in the welterweight roster. However, Usman has the welterweight gold strap and Burns is still hunting for it. Although both the fighters have collided inside the octagon at UFC 258, the fight still appears to garner a lot of attention from combat sports fans, primarily due to ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’s’ reaction after he won.
Usman, who successfully defended his title against ‘Durinho’ still talks about the match as it was one of the most important fights of his career.
In a chat with Brian Davis of True Geordie podcast Usman said, “To touch on that Gilbert Burns fight that is exactly how I felt. I was burning on the inside the whole training camp leading up to this fight because how dare you say that? How dare you? As not just a competitor as opposition but it’s a competitor that has seen me do this, these guys don’t really, everyone trains, but these guys don’t understand what I put myself through.”

Usman added, “I go through hell sometimes I am more beat up before I even get in there and I actually take damage in the fights. I would say most cases. I put myself through everything before I get into that cage and so in that fight, he should know that because he trained with me for a long time. He knew how hard I trained for these fights. So for him to say that, I just felt like how dare you. So when I put it, when I went out there, I wanted to really show him that I’m levels above. That was just the whole feeling towards it.”
