However, this time it isn’t from the MMA cage or boxing ring but from a Muay Thai bout.

The ‘earth-shattering’ axe kick

In the tiny clip going viral on the internet, a Muay Thai fighter can be seen hitting his opponent with an axe kick that lands clean on his opponent’s face. He quickly follows it up with a barrage of punches, dropping the opponent on the canvas. This moment of sheer violence, however, soon came to an end when the referee intervened and stopped the fight. For anybody wondering, the fight is from the Muay Thai Grand Prix Contest from April last year.

Held at the O2 arena in London, the winner of the bout is Said Kabil. Returning to the ring after a two-year layoff, Kabil was waiting for the opportunity to once again show his striking prowess once again, something he could not do due to the dry spell of the pandemic. And finally, when he went up against Gary Corbett, the martial artist held nothing back, delivering a kick that many are referring to as the Muay Thai kick of the year.

No matter how exciting it is to watch, this kick is also a testimony to the fact of how dangerous combat sports could be. The sheer danger that the fighters are exposed to is unreal. Anybody who dares to step into a professional bout deserves all the respect, just because of this. It also serves as a reminder to the people who pick fights on the streets, underestimating the outcome it could lead to.
