Joe Rogan is a simple man. He loves comedy, fights, elk meat, taking ice baths, and wildlife. The podcast host has a fascination with the wilderness and often ponders serious questions such as who would win in a fight between a grizzly bear and a gorilla.

And he really was in his element with guest ‘Python Cowboy’ Mike Kimmel on episode 2020 of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast. A trapper and rescuer of invasive species in Florida, Cowboy regaled Joe with his near-fatal encounter with a 17 feet python in the Everglades of Florida. Rogan, too, shared his encounters with wildlife and narrated an instance of running into a very large wild cat.

Joe told a story about encountering a wild cat in Utah a few years ago and described the size and strength of the impressive feline.

“I see one in Montana two years ago, excuse me, in Utah two years ago, and it freaked me out, and I was in a truck 30 yards from it. My friend Colton goes, “A cat”. I go..”where?” he goes under the tree and I look and I see the glowing eyes because it was dark. And then I put my vinyls on them and I was maybe 30 yards away. And his f**cking head was like a pumpkin. This one had massive forearms. Just massive. And it was just sitting there with his pumpkin head and that’s it,” a wide-eyed Joe told his guest.

The podcast host also revealed that this was not his first encounter with a wild cat, and had run into one in California some years ago. Rogan confused the diminutive feline for a coyote until he saw its tail and realized it was a cat.

Python Cowboy explains why wild cats are so big in Florida

This prompted his guest to point out the reason wild cats such as cougars are so large in Florida. He told Joe that the last remaining local Florida Panthers were cross-bred with mountain lions from Texas. The trapper disapproved of the move as it led to the disappearance of the Florida Panther population. He stated that the new species was bigger and more aggressive than the endemic panthers. This was creating problems for the local wildlife in Florida.
